The Marysville Planning Commission will vote on a major update to the city's environmental protection rules on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. The proposal, designated as File Number CA23-010, amends the Critical Areas Ordinance to align local regulations with the Growth Management Act and the 2024 Marysville Comprehensive Plan. The changes focus on how the city manages wetlands, fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas, frequently flooded areas, geologically hazardous areas, and critical aquifer recharge areas.
City staff initiated this process to ensure local codes reflect the Best Available Science prepared by the Washington State Department of Ecology. The update specifically targets amendments within Marysville Municipal Code Title 22E, with particular attention to section 22E.010 regarding Critical Areas Management. The proposal also revises definitions in Chapter 22A.020 that relate to these environmental standards. Angela Gemmer, the Interim Community Development Director, is the staff contact for the project.
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 6:30 PM on November 10. The meeting will take place in the 2nd Floor Council Chambers at 501 Delta Avenue. The session is a hybrid event, allowing residents to attend in person or remotely via Microsoft Teams. The agenda packet and meeting link are available through the city's Digital Records Center.
Residents who wish to provide verbal public comment must pre-register by contacting Angela Gemmer by 4:00 PM on Monday, November 9, 2026. Those registering must provide their name, address, email, and phone number for the public record. Written comments must be submitted to Gemmer by 4:30 PM on November 9. She can be reached at 360.363.8240 or agemmer@marysvillewa.gov.
The city offers special accommodations for people with disabilities. Requests must be made two business days before the meeting date. Residents should contact the City Clerk's office at 360.363.8000 to arrange these accommodations. For voice relay services, call 1.800.833.6384. For TDD relay services, call 1.800.833.6388.
The hearing is an open record proceeding, meaning the documents and discussions are part of the public record. The proposal aims to modernize the city's environmental standards to match current state requirements and scientific data. The Planning Commission's decision on this update will determine the final scope of the amendments to Title 22E.
File Number CA23-010 is the reference number for this specific proposal. Residents can search for the full document in the Digital Records Center by entering this file number. The update process is a periodic requirement under state law, ensuring that local regulations do not lag behind state directives and scientific understanding.
