The Monroe Bearcats advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory over Mountlake Terrace on Thursday evening.
Monroe entered the match with a 10-4-3 record after a scoreless first half. Sophomore Finley Greear broke the deadlock, followed quickly by a goal from Sojo Skurdal. The two goals arrived within three minutes of each other, shifting the momentum entirely to the home team.
Mountlake Terrace, which finished the game with a 7-9-2 record, responded through senior Lily Sims. She converted a rebound twelve minutes later to cut the deficit. However, the Terrace effort faded as Greear struck again late in the match. Her breakaway attempt finished at the far post, sealing the win.
In other district action, Edmonds-Woodway defeated Marysville Getchell 4-0. Four different Warriors scored, with Aki Ikegami, Bella Drietzler, Izzy Han, and Betsy Myers all finding the net. Goalkeepers Morgan Smith and Ella Bryant combined for the shutout. The result ended the Getchell season at 7-8-1.
Shorewood defeated Mount Vernon 3-1, while Meadowwood beat Oak Harbor 4-1. Kamiak edged Lincoln of Seattle 1-0, and Lake Washington defeated Jackson 2-0.
Monroe will face Stanwood in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Edmonds-Woodway is scheduled to play at Ferndale the same day.
