Shorewood scored 55 points to win the District 1 3A Boys Cross Country Championships at Lakewood High School on Saturday, ahead of Edmonds-Woodway (80), Mountlake Terrace (93) and Shorecrest (104). Shorewood senior Elijah Graves crossed first in 15:03.8, a new meet record. Sophomore Kellan Roberts finished second in 15:29.3, less than 26 seconds behind his teammate.

Roberts said he felt empty two miles into the race, then made his move near the woods section of the course. "I didn't feel like I really had anything left, but sometimes your body is deceiving," Roberts said. "I had enough to get past him." Stanwood sophomore Casey Westerfield was third in 15:33.7, and Mountlake Terrace senior Reilly Brookhart was fourth in 15:37.4.

Shorewood's Noah Raupp placed 12th in 16:14.3, Brayden Yee took 16th in 16:17.2, and Jack DeLaChapelle was 24th in 16:34.4 to complete the team's top five. Coach Joel Reese said the program's culture has underclassmen learn from the seniors they replace. "These guys come from a line of guys who really put in the work," Reese said. "And they've just been emulating that this summer and throughout the course of the season, and it's just showing off in their performances."

In the girls race, Edmonds-Woodway took the team title with 58 points, edging Oak Harbor at 61. Shorecrest (85) and Shorewood (92) also qualified. The Warriors placed four runners in the top 11 within 7.6 seconds: senior Hazel Zackey seventh in 19:08.3, junior Ravenna Tysland ninth in 19:13.9, freshman Emma Anderson 10th in 19:15.3, and sophomore Taylor Gaschk 11th in 19:15.9. Mount Vernon junior Mia Checketts won the individual title in 18:25.3, and Shorewood sophomore Olivia Decker was second in 18:39.7.

Shorewood sophomore Daphne LaClergue won the two-mile Girls Unified race in 13:26.7. Shorewood junior John Tan placed third in the two-mile Boys Unified in 14:30.0. The top four teams in each race qualified for the 3A State Championships in Pasco next week. Shorewood plans to taper training mileage this week before the meet.
