A wave of newcomers is flocking to local tarot readings, signaling a shift in how residents approach spiritual wellness. Practitioners report that the practice is no longer confined to niche counterculture circles but is attracting a diverse audience seeking tangible, in-person experiences. This trend is visible across the city, from pop-ups in Reynoldstown to residencies in Adair Park.

Lauren Kelley, a reader who established her practice after purchasing her first deck nearly a decade ago, provides specific metrics on this growth. She has conducted more than 200 readings at Seventh House, an astrology-themed cocktail bar. Kelley estimates that 85% of those sessions were with first-time customers. She attributes the high number of beginners to a public readiness to engage with intuitive practices.

Megan Volpert, co-founder of Atlanta Tarot, observes a similar pattern in client demographics. She offers readings at Seed to Star Collective in Decatur and at a gelato shop in Avondale Estates. Volpert describes the current moment as one where it is socially acceptable to identify with the practice. She calls tarot a low-cost form of therapy that supports self-discovery, noting that clients are eager to hear what their subconscious is communicating.

Adam Melvin, a Mercer University McAfee School of Theology graduate, founded the nonprofit Enlightened Collective in 2014. Based at the Little Five Points Community Center, his group hosts regular events that bridge traditional faith and alternative spirituality. Melvin noted that his evangelical background and the tarot community share values such as empathy and discernment. His group continues to hold pop-ups at Mama Lin’s Chicken Delight.

The upcoming schedule reflects the density of these events. The All ATL Souls Hallowed Night event is set for Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. at the Little Five Points Community Center. Tarot Tuesdays occur at 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Mama Lin’s. Kelley is scheduled for a reading on Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. and a workshop on Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m., both at Seventh House. Atlanta Tarot continues to offer virtual and in-person sessions at Seed to Star Collective.
