Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson spent approximately 45 minutes to an hour in a hospital with a broken rib before returning to the field during Thursday night's game against the Carolina Panthers. The injury forced a mid-game medical evacuation that teammates compared to a professional wrestling storyline.

Watson suffered the injury in the second quarter while making a 53-yard catch. Carolina Panthers cornerback Will Lee was also hurt on the play and left the game with a hamstring injury. Watson described the immediate aftermath as difficult, stating that he could not breathe and was spitting blood on the sideline.

Team doctors ordered a CT scan to check for internal bleeding. The scan came back clean, confirming the broken rib but clearing Watson to play. He applied padding to his chest and ran back onto the field at the start of the third quarter to a loud ovation from the crowd.

Safety Javon Bullard said the team was stunned by the sequence of events, while safety Xavier McKinney called the move a display of resilience and toughness. Watson noted that he had watched WWE as a child and felt the camera attention was intense during his return.

The return helped Green Bay hold onto a 27-19 victory. Carolina had cut the deficit from 27-10 to 27-19 late in the fourth quarter. With about two and a half minutes remaining, Watson caught a seven-yard pass on third down to help secure the win. He finished the game with eight receptions for 113 yards.

Watson is having a career year, recording 42 catches for 708 yards in his first eight games. He said the time missed to previous injuries, including a torn ACL, made him value the opportunity to play. Watson said he never considered staying out once the scan results were in, adding that being on the field means everything to him.
