State Reps. Davina Duerr and Shelley Kloba held substantial leads over their Republican challengers in two House races in the 1st Legislative District as initial results were posted Tuesday. The district spans parts of south Snohomish County and north King County, including the cities of Brier, Bothell, Kenmore, Woodinville, and Lake Forest Park.
In Position 1, Duerr led with 73.5% of the vote against Maggie Wang, who received 26.4%. In Position 2, Kloba led with 72.9% of the vote against Cliff Moon, who received 27%. State legislators currently earn an annual salary of $72,494.
Duerr, 55, has served in the House since 2019 and works as an architect in Bothell. Her legislative priorities include creating a wildland-urban interface code, adjusting state housing codes to streamline affordable housing, and reducing air pollution. Wang, a food service worker also living in Bothell, cited affordability, public safety, and parental rights as her main issues. State filings show Duerr raised $77,530 for her campaign as of Tuesday, while Wang raised $12,915.
Kloba, 59, has served in the House since 2017 after a term on the Kirkland City Council. She focuses on tax fairness, equitable school funding, and technology issues such as data privacy and artificial intelligence guardrails. Moon, who lives in Lake Forest Park, has owned a construction company for 54 years. His voter pamphlet statement says schools should focus on academics, and his priorities include lowering taxes and supporting law enforcement. Kloba reported raising $80,545 for her campaign, while Moon did not report any contributions.
County officials will continue counting ballots throughout the week. The state is scheduled to certify the final election results by December 3. The new legislative terms begin on January 11.
