LSU head coach Lane Kiffin suggested the Southeastern Conference is working against his team after scheduling the upcoming game against Alabama for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.

Kiffin told reporters on Oct. 28 that the daytime slot at Tiger Stadium was a surprise. He noted the matchup had been played at night in the location for the previous 16 years. "I was shocked," Kiffin said. "I never even thought or considered that it wouldn't be at night." He described his prior assumption that the game would remain an evening contest as potentially naive.

The coach implied the time change was a tactical decision to reduce LSU's home-field advantage. He stated that the stadium atmosphere is more intimidating at night and that the conference likely wanted to level the playing field. Kiffin added, "If someone thinks the SEC wants us to win this year after what's been going on, they must have just been on Mars the last four months."

Kiffin's comments follow an active lawsuit between the university and the conference. Prior to the season, there were discussions about removing LSU from the SEC over the school's push to allow NFL players on its roster. The legal friction provided context for the coach's skepticism regarding the conference's intentions.

The scheduling decision may also reflect standard network programming rather than a specific bias against LSU. Two other high-profile games, Georgia at Ole Miss and Notre Dame at Miami, are also scheduled for the 6:30 p.m. CST time slot on ESPN. These slots typically feature marquee matchups for the network.

The 2:30 p.m. kickoff will take place at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. Kiffin's remarks came during a weekly SEC teleconference. He previously joked with LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette about the SEC's motive for altering the traditional evening schedule.
