Matt Roffe is the White Sox's new director of amateur scouting.
The Chicago front office made the hiring announcement on Thursday. This came less than 24 hours after the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Houston Astros to win the 2026 World Series. Roffe had served as the assistant director of domestic scouting for the Brewers during that championship run.
Roffe joined the Milwaukee organization in 2021. He initially held roles as a manager and coordinator for scouting operations. The Brewers promoted him to assistant director in 2025. Before his time with Milwaukee, Roffe worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2019 to 2021. During those years, he served as a player personnel and pro scouting analyst. He worked alongside Josh Barfield, who is currently the assistant general manager for the White Sox.
The White Sox created this open position after Mike Shirley resigned on Sept. 12. Shirley stepped down following an internal investigation into allegations of verbal harassment. The Athletic first reported that Roffe would take over the amateur draft process. MLB.com later confirmed his title as director of amateur scouting, though the team has not yet issued an official statement on the final scope of his duties.
Roffe will lead the White Sox's amateur draft efforts. His specific responsibilities beyond the draft have not been detailed in the reports available as of Thursday.
