President Donald Trump visited the Lincoln Memorial on Monday to announce the completion of repairs to the Reflecting Pool. He used the visit to deliver his final public message to voters before the 2026 midterm elections. The President had just concluded a campaign tour that included nearly 30 rallies.
The Interior Department spent months fixing the water feature. Trump repeated claims that vandalism had damaged the pool prior to the repairs. He praised the agency’s staff in a statement, saying, “The people from Interior have been incredible. And the pool is now better and more beautiful than it’s ever been before. And we’re very proud of it.”
Trump addressed the electorate directly about the upcoming vote. He described the contest as the most important midterm election of a lifetime. The President argued that the Democratic Party fielded the most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history. He did not mention the high cost of living, which recent polls indicate is the top concern for voters. Instead, he highlighted what he called a strong and resilient U.S. economy.
Historical patterns suggest the party in power usually loses seats in midterm elections. Republicans currently hold a razor-thin majority in Congress. The White House hopes to defy that historical trend. Final polling data for the 2026 cycle points to strong performance by Democratic candidates.
Voters will decide which party controls Congress for the next two years on Tuesday. The election results will determine the legislative balance for the remainder of the President’s term.
