In the Seattle locker room on Sunday night, Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker removed an eggshell-colored suit coat and adjusted his brown-rimmed glasses. He stood before reporters following his team's 20-3 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks in the nationally broadcast game. The loss marked the first for the Chiefs, who entered the matchup with a 5-0 record. Walker indicated immediately that he was dissatisfied with the result.

When asked to characterize the team's effort, Walker used a single word: “Terrible.” He later stated that the squad could improve “everything.” His reaction contrasted with the quieter responses from other players. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes left the locker room quickly to address the press, while tight end Travis Kelce gathered his belongings in silence. Walker, who had played for Seattle previously, kept his pregame comments about the rivalry minimal, though the postgame atmosphere was more personal for him.

The offense struggled to find rhythm throughout the contest. The Chiefs were missing both starting offensive linemen due to injuries and played without two top receivers. This lack of depth contributed to a disjointed performance. Mahomes admitted his footwork was off in the first half, causing him to drift out of clean pockets while anticipating pressure. He acknowledged that the team needed to start faster and communicate better on the field.

Statistically, the performance was a rare struggle for the veteran quarterback. According to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, it was only the second full game in Mahomes' career where the Chiefs failed to score a touchdown. The team recorded just 11 first downs, the lowest total in a start for Mahomes. The three-point total tied for the fewest points scored in a game with him at quarterback.

Walker, who had been on a 2,000-yard rushing pace through the first five games, was limited to 14 carries for 36 yards. Seattle defenders prevented him from making his typical explosive runs. Walker said he felt fine walking onto the field, but the outcome proved otherwise. After the final whistle, he skipped shaking hands with former teammates and went directly to the locker room. He described his thoughts as simple: frustration over the loss and seeing Seattle celebrate.

Mahomes took responsibility for the offensive shortcomings, specifically the failure to use the run threat to open up the passing game. He noted that the young team needed to communicate more effectively. Coach Andy Reid said all three phases of the game struggled, and he took full responsibility for the performance. Kicker Harrison Butker missed two field goal attempts, including one short at halftime and another wide right in the second half.

The Chiefs converted 11 of 16 third-down attempts, a high efficiency rate that tied for their second-most since 1991. The team now faces a difficult schedule with five of their next seven games played on the road. Their next opponent is the Denver Broncos, with matchups against the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams scheduled later. Walker finished the interview by noting that Seattle played hard and outplayed them.
