The Everett Silvertips defeated the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-3 on Sunday, snapping a three-game losing streak during their month-long road trip through eastern Washington and central Canada. The win marks the first of only two victories for Everett in their last three outings. As of Monday, the Silvertips hold a 4-6-1-2 record and sit ninth in the Western Conference with 11 points.
Everett trailed 2-0 early in the game against Brandon. Aiden Foster scored a power-play goal at 3:28 of the first period, and Levi Ellingsen added a second at 13:17. The Silvertips answered with four consecutive goals to take the lead. Jaxsin Vaughan cut the deficit to 2-1 on the power play at 11:25 of the second period, followed immediately by Rhys Jamieson tying the score 2-2 at 11:45.
Lukas Kaplan put Everett ahead 3-2 at 18:27 of the second period with a one-timer from the slot. Jamieson extended the lead to 4-2 at 9:57 of the third period on the power play, finishing a cross-ice pass from Dario Blengino. Hunter Rudolph tapped in a rebound off the crossbar at 14:26 to secure the 5-3 final. Goaltender Bennett Byers recorded 26 saves in the win.
The victory followed two losses on the road. On Wednesday, Everett lost to the Saskatoon Blades 3-2 in a shootout. The Blades scored the deciding goal after Silvertips captain Jaxsin Vaughan lost his handle on the puck in front of the net. On Friday, the Silvertips lost to the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2. Prince Albert scored two goals in 15 seconds during the first period, and that lead proved to be the game winner.
Rhys Jamieson earned first star honors for the week. The 18-year-old forward scored three goals in three games, including the decisive goal in the win over Brandon. Bennett Byers took second star, posting 83 saves on 91 shots for a .912 save percentage. Brek Liske was named third star after recording an assist in each of the three games, leading the team with seven points in 12 games.
The Silvertips will play three more games in Canada this week before returning to Angel of the Winds Arena on Nov. 6. They open their next slate on Tuesday against the Regina Pats, who hold a 6-4-0-1 record. Everett will face the Swift Current Monsters on Friday and the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday afternoon.
