The AFC North is currently led by two teams that sportsbooks consider long shots to win the division. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns both hold 5-2 records, placing them half a game ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals and one game ahead of the Baltimore Ravens. Despite this early lead, the Steelers are listed at +450 and the Browns at 6-to-1 to win the division by the end of the 17-game schedule.

The odds reflect a surprising shift in the division's power dynamics. The Baltimore Ravens began the season as heavy favorites at -130 but have dropped to +275. The Cincinnati Bengals, who were +275 in the offseason, now sit as the short-term favorite at +105. This inversion suggests the two top teams in the standings may not be the ones to claim the title in February.

Cleveland's lead rests on a fragile foundation of late-game heroics. The Browns have finished five games in the fourth quarter this season, a near-unprecedented streak. Despite these dramatic finishes, Cleveland maintains a negative 13-point scoring differential. The team's recent success includes a 27-24 victory over Pittsburgh as 3-point underdogs in Week 4, which currently gives them the division lead via tiebreaker.

Pittsburgh's position is bolstered by stronger underlying metrics, though the team is dealing with widespread injury issues. The Steelers rank 8th in DVOA ratings, compared to Cleveland's 21st. Injuries have decimated the receiving corps and defensive line, forcing tight end Darnell Washington and receiver Germie Bernard to step into starting roles. Both players are Las Vegas natives who have maintained a high standard of play in the pass offense.

The Sunday matchup in Pittsburgh marks the NFL's first regular-season rematch of the year. The Steelers are favored by 3 to 3.5 points. Analysts note that the line should likely be higher, given Cleveland's defensive struggles. The Steelers also face a scheduling disadvantage, having just played in Paris, a factor that has historically impacted teams' performance in recent seasons.

The division's current state challenges the pre-season expectations that Baltimore and Cincinnati would dominate. The Ravens have taken the largest hit to their odds, while the Bengals have overtaken them as the favorite. The Steelers and Browns have shown enough quality to remain competitive, though concerns persist about Cleveland's reliance on fourth-quarter drives and Pittsburgh's injury burden.

The upcoming Week 8 slate includes other high-profile games where home-field advantage appears undervalued. The Seattle Seahawks host the Chicago Bears as 3-point favorites, a line that may not fully account for the quality gap between the teams. Similarly, the Detroit Lions host the Minnesota Vikings, with the Vikings' undefeated record potentially masking a lack of offensive efficiency.

Sportsbooks have adjusted lines for several games based on recent performances. The Dallas Cowboys are favored by 6.5 points against the Arizona Cardinals following a 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. The line did not change despite the Cowboys' defensive improvements, suggesting the market views the Cardinals as a weak opponent. The overall record for picking against the spread stands at 63-37-1 for the year.
