One active explosives lab was identified inside a home in unincorporated Lynnwood following a medical call on Tuesday. The discovery took place in the 400 block of Lakeview Road near Martha Lake.
South County Fire responded to the scene around 2 p.m. for a medical emergency. While on site, firefighters observed items they believed to be explosives inside the residence. This observation prompted law enforcement to take a closer look at the property.
Upon arrival, a deputy sergeant recognized chemicals and chemical precursors associated with explosives. The release from authorities stated that the materials appeared to be manufactured inside the home. This initial assessment triggered a specialized response from the state.
Technicians from the Washington State Patrol bomb squad entered the residence using a robot. Their inspection confirmed the presence of an active explosives lab. A deputy then obtained a search warrant to allow for a full processing of the scene.
Bomb technicians removed all explosives precursor chemicals from the house. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office also processed the scene and collected additional evidence. Law enforcement officials said the investigation remains active.
Authorities stated that they do not believe there is any immediate danger to the public at this time. The incident began as a routine medical response before the specialized teams took over the investigation.
