One man died in a house fire on Monday morning in central Everett.

Firefighters arrived at the 7300 block of McDougall Avenue after multiple 911 callers reported smoke and flames coming from the residence. Dispatchers initially told responding units that a person was still inside.

Upon arrival, crews found an active fire on the lower level of a split-level home. The release stated that challenging fire conditions made the search and firefighting operations difficult. First responders located a man in his late 30s deceased inside the home. South County Fire paramedics took a woman in her early 60s to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett after she suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. Social workers from the city of Everett’s CARE team met with family members on the scene to offer support and resources. The team is also coordinating with the American Red Cross for additional assistance.

The Everett Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official identification of the deceased and the cause and manner of death. The Everett Police Department is conducting a death investigation per standard procedure following a fatal fire.
